Strengthen Our Sisters International Exchange Program began when Monica emailed us from Colombia South America and asked if she could come and work with us to learn about battered women's shelters. She said there were none in her country and she wanted to change that. Monica spent a year with us, is now getting her Masters Degree, and will return to Colombia fully committed and prepared to make history by opening the first battered women's shelter in her country. Because we know that domestic violence exists in every culture and country of the world and we understsnd that violence is passed from one generation to the next, we want to do our part for world peace. And it is fitting, as Monica says, that the first battered women's shelter in North America be a leader in the endeavor to break the cycle in other parts of the world. If you are a woman interested in participating in our exchange program as Monica did, we can offer you room and board at the shelter while you work with us. You may be sharing a room, and you will work very hard along with our dedicated staff, but you will learn much about: the dynamics of domestic violence; running a shelter program; advocacy; and breaking the cycle of violence. Our Email is info@sosdv.org IMPORTANT SAFETY ALERT!
